The Global Fund – Colombia:

A session to select the executing entities for the project “Building a sexual and reproductive health proposal that emphasizes on STD, HIV and AIDS”

Santiago de Cali, RedLa+.- In order to reduce vulnerability when facing STDs – HIV – AIDS in 600 thousand adolescents and young people that have been displaced in different regions in Colombia, a prevention and service project was approved last year by The Global Fund. The project has a global focus about human rights, international humanitarian rights and gender equality.

Municipalities that are included in the project are

Armenia, Barrancabermeja, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Buenaventura, Carmen de Bolívar, Cúcuta, Florencia, Ibagué, Montería, Neiva, Pasto, Soacha, Soledad, Tuluá and Villavicencio.

One of the objectives is to strengthen social response capabilities at the selected municipalities, involving local political and administrative authorities, the private sector; community based organizations as well as youth leaders.

They are seeking partner entities with the technical and administrative capacity to develop the three axis of the project: human rights, education and sexual and reproductive health, and working with youth regarding displacement.

Offering entities must file a lone written technical offer written by the municipality or the local District of Bogotá, signed by all the alliance members

Regional Proposal
What is it?

• It is a Web calendar with events related to the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS that take place in Latin America and the Caribbean or in other regions.

•  It is a space on the Network to share and receive information about meetings, workshops and seminars that are taking place in the region.

•  It is a Web site where participating agencies can directly post their events without third parties.

Current participants include: Agua Buena, ICWLAC, FNUAP, GCTH, UNAIDS, OPS/OMS, PANCAP, PASCA, REDLA+, SIDALAC, UNESCO and UNICEF.

UNAIDS - RedLa+.- The purpose of the World Campaign against AIDS this year is to sensitize society and help deal with the problems relating with HIV/AIDS that affect women and girls.

Aiming towards this, the 2004 Campaign enters a transition phase: it centers the focal issue on women regarding HIV/AIDS, at the same time that it moves forward in strengthening civil society through a World Management Committee made up of representatives from non governmental agencies in each continent in the region. GCTH meets in Brasil

Santiago de Cali, RedLa+.- The annual meeting of the Technical Horizontal Cooperation Group, GCHT (initial in Spanish), took place in Sao Paulo , Brazil from October 4 th to the 6 th.

Changes to the Technical secretariat, the effects of FTA on access to retroviral medication and patented property, were some of the issues discussed during the event.

During the event, Pedro Chequer, Chief of the AIDS program in Brazil , highlighted the analysis made during a previous meetings of the program manager in which they studied the different moments and stages that he GCGT has been through since it's founding. More information >>> / Back to top

In Perú
Strategic Planning Meeting about treatments

Santiago de Cali, RedLa+.- The event took place from September 26th to the 30th in Lima . Thee purpose of the event was to establish a coordinating and strategic planning body for complete treatment services for HIV/AIDS for the region. / Back to top.


Chile
MCP summated report about resources management

Santiago de Chile, RedLa+ .- The Country Coordinating Committee (CCC) recently released a report about the final destination of the six million Dollars disbursed by the Global Fund to this country for causes related to AIDS.

Marco Becerra, President of the CCC, stated that these funds have been instrumental in being able to afford antiretroviral treatments for all the people in the public health system that live with HIV and they ease the development of prevention campaigns, training workshops and studies on new vulnerable populations.

Participating in the Committee is the new National AIDS Commission (Conasida), the “Vivo Positivo” network, the “Universidad de Chile”, the “Fundacion de Ideas” and the “Consejo de la Americas ”, in charge of administrating the resources / Back to top
